Tree Cabling and Bracing

Cabling and bracing are terms used to describe particular mitigation techniques employed by tree service and tree care professionals in the attempt to strengthen a structurally weak tree. Cables are physically attached directly to large limbs and the trees trunk to help support the weak points between stems.

Braces are less common and are fabricated for each particular situation. A brace is normaly installed in the ground directly below a prechosen point along an oversized limb, and atop that brace is a u-shaped cradle of sorts that the large limb rests upon.

The design and placement of cables or braces requires a high level of skill and expertise because improperly installed cables and braces can drastically change the loading dynamics of the tree, which actually increases the potential for a large limb to break! Be sure to employ an ISA Certified Arborist for all your tree service and tree care quotes.
